Every book on spiritual awakening sells you the experience. The download. The light. The tears. The moment it all made sense.
This book does not sell you an experience. It gives you a definition, and it gives it to you in three sentences.
It usually starts at night. Not always. But often at night. The house is quiet, the phone is face down, and there is nobody left to perform for. And the question arrives. It is never loud. It is small, and it is exact:
What am I doing?
And then a second one, worse.Who asked me to?
That question is the awakening. Not the light. Not the tears. Not the vision at a workshop you paid four hundred dollars for. Those things happen to people. Some of them are real. But they are symptoms. The thing itself is quieter and much more dangerous.
The thing itself is a question you cannot put down.
Before it, you lived on borrowed answers. Your mother's answers. Your church's answers. Your profession's answers. You never examined them because you never needed to. Then one night the borrowing stops working. The answers did not change. You started asking.
Read it in order. It is an argument, not a buffet. The argument only lands at the end.

It is a book about spiritual awakening written from an Igbo Christian life that has also read Western philosophy, been broken by its own tradition, and refused to fake synthesis. It quotes scripture when scripture works as a manual. It quotes Igbo tradition when tradition describes what the author has seen. It does not subordinate either to the other.
No. The book uses Igbo material because that is where the author stands, and because the category "spiritual awakening" has been largely emptied of rigour by a Western industry selling the experience. The definitions, the warnings, and the sequence hold outside Africa.
No. It says so in the opening and says so again in the crisis appendix. If you are unwell, be treated. If you are in crisis, read Appendix A first — one page — and then get help. The book will wait.
No. It will ask you to answer the question that arrived. That answer is yours and it will look like your life, not like the author's.
Roughly 20,000 words — about 110 typeset pages. Short enough to read in two sittings. Dense enough that you will return to parts.
That admission is not weakness. It is the only clean starting point the subject has.
